Helping Hands youth and children services, Inc.
Is a non- profit organization that offers five different programs to support young people to overcome barriers and obstacles to graduate from high school, to be college ready, and to be independent citizens. The programs are The Teen Moms Program, The teen Dads Program, The Students at-risk Program, The Learning Support Program, and The Advocacy Program.

I- The Teen Mom Program

The Teen Moms program is for women between the ages of 12 and 22 who have chosen to parent their child, but who have not yet obtained their high school diploma. In return for their efforts to postpone subsequent pregnancies and be engaged full-time in school, the women in the program receive support from one-on-one visits, learning support, counseling before and after delivery, Educational Workshops, Mentors, Child care services and community referrals as appropriate.

II- The Teen Dad Program

The Teen Dads program is for young males between the ages of 14 and 20 who are fathers and have chosen to support their babies and have not yet obtained their high school diplomas. In an effort to prevent and eliminate dropouts, the program offers them Learning support, counseling before and after delivery, Educational Workshops, Mentors, Childcare services and community referrals as appropriate.

III- Students At-Risk Program:

This program is designed for students (12 to 22 years old) who are in danger of failing to complete his or her education with an adequate level of skills, including special education identified students. Most known risk factors are low achievement, retention in grade, behavioral problems, poor attendance, and low socioeconomic status. This program offers one-on-one tutoring, psychological services, social support, parent involvement, and academic counseling.

IV- The Advocacy Program:

Is an outreach community connection to serve and help students depends on their needs. This program consists of a network of professionals in local communities such as School counselors, school principals, Psychologists, Family Counseling, Behavioral Counseling, Community Health Centers, Local Child Care Centers, and Alternative Educational Youth Programs.

The Learning Support:

Is a program that is branched into two major sections:

a) Health Education Academic Support, which includes HIV prevention, STD’s, STI’s, prenatal classes, pregnancy prevention, nutritional diets, etc.

b) Academic Learning: Tutoring in all academic subjects, such as Science, Math, Biology, etc.

The Teen Dads and Moms programs are for young men and women between the ages of 12 and 22 who have chosen to parent their child, but who have not yet obtained their high school diplomas. In an effort to prevent and eliminate drop-outs, and in return for their efforts to postpone subsequent pregnancies and be engaged full-time in school, all teens in the program receive support from one-on-one visits, learning support, counseling before and after delivery, Nutritional seminars, Educational Workshops, Mentors, Child care services and community referrals as appropriate.

Description of the activities and target population
Helping Hands will present different educational and nutritional services to about 100 teen dads, ages are between 14 and 19 years old, in the cities of Pomona, Claremont and Montclair. The census tracking info regarding teen parent’s statistics shows that about 52,000 new deliveries of teen parents took place in the state of California and more than 30% of them (15000) are in the county of San Bernardino and Los Angeles. Helping Hands will be reaching out to many organizations in the area for aids and to keep the services for this young population.
